As Honorary Chairman of the Platform Wiser Money Matters, Her Majesty Queen Maxima attended today, Thursday June 21, a symposium in The Hague organized to mark the 10-year anniversary of the Platform Wiser Money Matters.
The Platform Wiser Money Matters is an initiative of the Ministry of Finance in collaboration with members of the financial sector, science, government and education, information and consumer organizations and aims to “join forces to promote responsible financial behavior in the Netherlands”.
Since 2008 the Platform promotes responsible financial behavior in the Netherlands thanks to the help of programs, activities and projects like the annual National Money Week.
In her speech the Queen stated that many things have changed since 2008, when the Platform started its work, “When Wijzer started in money matters, in 2008, almost nobody had an iPhone and contactless payments were still future music. Since then, the number of webshops has multiplied by six. We can shop worldwide 24 hours a day”. Queen Maxima also stressed the importance of financial education for young people, “Education remains extremely important. Let us ensure that young people structurally learn financial skills at school. Not only the theory, but also the practice”.
