Dutch Royals attend ”Appeltjes van Oranje 2018”

Today, Wednesday June 6, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, along with Princess Beatrix attended the ”Appeltjes van Oranje 2018” award ceremony at Palace Nooreinde in The Hague.
The theme of this year’s award was: “Young and socially enterprising”, focused on young people who are committed in the society.
The winners of “Appeltjes van Oranje 2018” were: “Buddy to Buddy” from Zutphen, a foundation helps refugees and Dutch people to get out of isolation; “Yets Foundation” from Schiedam, an organization that offers help to young people who grow up with social problems through “a combination of basketball training, healthy eating together, homework support and attention to social integration”; “Excel Arts Academy” from Curaçao, an arts academy that stimulates the students to participate in art and culture.
The prize consists of a bronze sculpture designed by Princess Beatrix and 15,000 euros.
The “Appeltjes van Oranje” started in 2003 as an annual award of the “Oranje Fonds”. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima are patrons of The Oranje Fonds that was created in 2002 as a gift for the couple on occasion of their wedding.
