For the first time in 90 years, a baby Prince has been born on Serbian soil: Princess Danica, wife of Prince Philip, gave birth to the couple’s first child on Sunday February 25th.

The newborn, born at 10:30am, has been named Stefan. Both mother and baby are doing well, according to the Royal Court. To mark the birth, Patriarch Irinej of Serbia allowed the bells of the St Sava Temple in Belgrade to ring.

Prince Philip, the second son of Crown Prince Alexander and his first wife, Princess Maria da Glória, Duchess of Segorbe, and Princess Danica were married in October last year.

The last Prince born in Serbia was Prince Tomislav (1928-2000), son of King Alexander I and Queen Maria.
