Prince Henrik Transferred From Hospital, Now At Fredensborg Palace

A bulletin from the Danish Royal Court this morning has announced that Prince Henrik has been transferred from Copenhagen’s Rigshospitalet to Fredensborg Palace.

The Palace is “where the Prince wishes to spend what remains of his life”, according to the statement. His condition remains serious.

The 83-year-old Prince was admitted to hospital on January 28th, upon his return from an Egyptian holiday, with the Court announcing on February 2nd that a benign tumour had been found in the Prince’s lung, and he was being treated for a lung infection. Last Friday, a bulletin from the Court described Prince Henrik’s condition as having “greatly worsened”. Crown Prince Frederik was recalled from South Korea, and members of Henrik’s immediate family have consistently visited him in hospital over the weekend.

His siblings – Catherine, Étienne and Jean-Baptiste de Monpezat – have all made the trip to Denmark to visit their ailing brother.

Queen Margarethe’s engagements for the coming week were cancelled on Monday. The only engagement still scheduled for this week is Crown Princess Mary’s trip to Lithuania on Thursday, for the centennial of the country’s foundation as a republic.
