Dutch Working Visit to China Begins

At the invitation of the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Maxima of The Netherlands started today, Wednesday February 7, a two-day working visit to China along with Halbe Zijlstra, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Upon their arrival at the Beijing Capital International Airport, the Royal Couple was welcomed by the Chinese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. Later the King and the Queen were received by the Dutch Ambassador, Ed Kronenburg, and his wife Liliane at their residence.

During the meeting, the Royal Couple was briefed about the political and economic situation of the country and the Belt & Road Initiative, a development strategy launched by the Chinese Government that aims to promote the cooperation, trade and economic integration between China and Asia, Africa and Europe.

Afterwards, in the afternoon, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima were welcomed by the Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang at the Great Hall of the People, where they had a meeting.

In the evening the Royal Couple was received by President Xi and his wife, Mrs Peng Liyuan, at the Zhongnanhai complex, where the President’s offices are located. After a meeting with the Dutch and the Chinese delegation, the President hosted a dinner.
