Camilla Tries Her Hand At Ale-Making During Visit To Swindon
The Duchess of Cornwall visited Swindon, in the south-west of England, on Tuesday where she tried her hand at brewing ale during her visit to Arkell’s Brewery.
“I’m only here for the beer!” the Duchess joked as she arrived at the family-run business which is marking 175 years of operation this year. She was given a tour of the brewing facility before coming to a room where a new, special beer was being brewed: The Duchess Ale, named after Camilla herself, and made from barley grown on the Highgrove Estate.
Camilla was able to assist in the brewing of The Duchess Ale, by ‘swinging the Valentine’, a “large copper arm that helps to control the flow of the wort from the mash into the under back” of the ale. She also got to taste some of Arkell’s organic beer, Arkell’s Bees Organic Ale, made from honey.
Earlier in the day, the Duchess also visited St. Mary’s Church of England Primary School in Marlborough.
