Surrounded By Family: New Photos Show Princess Beatrix At 80
Today, Princess Beatrix of The Netherlands celebrates her eightieth birthday. To mark the occasion, the Dutch Royal Court has released a series of new photographs of the Princess with her family.
The photos were taken at Drakensteyn Castle in autumn last year by photographer Jeroen van der Meyde, who has snapped the Oranjes on numerous occasions. In two of the photographs, Princess Beatrix is shown with her eight grandchildren: Princesses Catharina-Amalia, Alexia and Ariane; Countesses Luana, Zaria, Eloise and Leonore, and Count Claus-Casimir. In another, they are joined by two of the Princess’s sons, King Willem-Alexander and Prince Constantijn, and her three daughters-in-law: Queen Maxima, Princess Mabel and Princess Laurentien.
Other photos show the Princess alone, and with her pet dog.
Princess Beatrix was born in 1938 as the eldest of four daughters born to Princess Juliana of The Netherlands and Prince Bernhard of Lippe-Biesterfeld. In 1966, she married Claus von Amsberg, with whom she had three sons: Willem-Alexander, Friso and Constantijn. She reigned as Queen of The Netherlands from 1980 to 2013.
