Prince Daniel Takes To The Ice During Opening Of New Multi-Sport Hall in Ockelbo
Ugglebo Arena, the new multi-sport hall in Ockelbo, was officially inaugurated on Thursday evening with a special exhibition ice hockey match between Ockelbo Hockey A-Team and Team Generation Pep, a team comprising of former ice hockey stars and Prince Daniel.
Team Generation Pep – named after Prince Daniel’s initiative to “spread knowledge and engage both people and organisations in a joint effort to make it easier for children and young people to live a healthy life” – won the match, 8-6. The Prince, who played ice hockey as a teenager, even scored one of his team’s goals.
“It’s superb,” Prince Daniel told the media of the event, also joking that he was almost run over by an ice resurfacer during his warm-up. He said that facilities such as the Ugglebo Arena were incredibly important for local municipalities as they provided “a meeting point and something people can together be happy about.”
Amongst the 1,200 spectators for the match were Crown Princess Victoria, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar, as well as Olle and Ewa Westling, the Prince’s parents, and Anna Westling Söderström, his sister, with her daughter Vera and husband Mikael.
