No Power? No Problem! Queen Elizabeth Attends WI Meeting Despite Power Outage
It was a Women’s Institute meeting of a different kind Thursday afternoon for the Sandringham chapter, as they welcomed Queen Elizabeth II for afternoon tea – in the darkness, thanks to a raging storm taking down power lines in the local area.
The West Newton village hall where the meeting was held was lit with torches and iPhones as the Queen joined the ladies for tea and cakes, as she does annual in January. Her Majesty even joked she was “struggling to see the WI members” during the meeting.
Susie Fowler-Watt from the BBC was the meeting’s guest speaker.
Sandringham House, the Queen’s residence in Norfolk, was also hit by the power outage.
