Belgian Royals Welcome Politicians To Palace For New Year’s Reception
Politicians from across Belgium headed to the Royal Palace in Brussels on Thursday, where they attended a New Year’s reception hosted by King Philippe.
The King delivered a speech to the gathering, as did Prime Minister Charles Michel. King Philippe thanked the authorities for their work in 2017, and praised the efforts by the whole country in ensuring Belgium remains stable and solid throughout recent economic challenges.
“Our economy is energetic and open. I realize on the spot the constant efforts that are made to deploy a dynamic and humane entrepreneurship. As Belgium and Europe return to stronger economic growth, it is also essential that no one feels left behind…This challenge can only be met by a common effort of all actors: companies, teachers and jobseekers,” the King said. He also said that Belgium’s solid foundation will help the country face new challenges moving forward, but that also gives them large responsibility.
Queen Mathilde, Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz were also present for the reception.
