Carl Philip and Sofia Attend Swedish Sports Gala
On Monday evening, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia represented the Swedish Royal Family at the 2018 Swedish Sports Gala, held at the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm.
The couple – who walked the red carpet upon arrival – were in the audience as Sweden’s top athletes for 2017 were honoured for their work and achievements. Among the winners were the Tre Kronor, Sweden’s men’s national ice hockey team, who – after winning their tenth world championship title last year – were named Team of the Year. Swimmer Sarah Sjöström was named Female Athlete of the Year, and discus thrower Daniel Ståhl Male Athlete of the Year.
Prince Carl Philip was asked to present the Jerry Prize, which went to equestrian Peder Fredricson. The Prince delivered a brief speech prior to presenting the award, in which he praised Sweden’s athletes as role models for people of all ages.
“You athletes work as ambassadors for Sweden. And you are also important role models for children and young people. We all know that there is a lot of weariness behind your exercise, but through your love for the sport – and your passion – you inspire both children and adults,” Prince Carl Philip said.
Princess Sofia wore a pale lilac evening gown from By Malina, accessorising with a black clutch and a pair of floral cameo-style earrings.
Prince Daniel was originally scheduled to attend the event, but he has come down with the cold that his wife, Crown Princess Victoria, has had in recent days (and forced her to cancel her own engagements).
