Queen Máxima Opens the House for Music

Today, Friday January 12, Queen Máxima attended at the opening of the renovated “House for Music” in Arnhem, in the province of Gelderland.

Upon her arrival the Queen was welcomed by the Mayor of Arnehm, Ahmed Marcouch, and Clemens Cornielje, the King’s Commissioner in the province of Gelderland.

During the opening ceremony took place a concert by the Het Gelders Orkest and a performance by more than one hundred Arnhem school children who played on homemade instruments, such as tuned scaffolding tubes, organ pipes and cement tubs. There was also the performance of the percussion group Kaboem! composed by fewer than 40 children with and without mental or physical disabilities who drum on percussion instruments accompanied by a music therapist.

The celebrations for the renovation of the “House for Music” began today and will last until Sunday January 14, with concerts, performances and various activities. The renovation of the “House for Music”, a 19th Century concert hall, was completed last May.
