A Golden Carriage Ride For Denmark’s Queen On Final Day of New Year’s Courts
The final New Year’s Court in Denmark for 2018 took place today, at Christiansborg Palace. As she usually does, Queen Margrethe II travelled from Amalienborg to the Palace in a golden coach dating back to 1840.
The Queen rode through the streets in a full cortege, the coach pulled by six horses. The coach was made for King Christian VIII, who reigned from 1839 to 1848, and is coated with 24-carat gold lead.
Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary also attended the Court, where the almost 600 guests were made up of the Danish Armed Forces and Emergency Management Agency; the I, II and III rank classes; and representatives of major organisations across the country and the royal patronages.
