Glittering New Year’s Court Kicks Off A Royal 2018 In Denmark
The first – and most important (and most diamond-packed!) – of four New Year’s Courts in Denmark took place this evening at Christian VII’s Palace, Amalienborg; hosted by Queen Margrethe II for members of the Order of the Elephant, the Danish Government, and the Royal Court.
Guests, including Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, were greeted by the Queen before a banquet where they dined on scallop terrine, quail with vegetables and truffle sauce, and Rubinstein cake. Wine from Cahors, Moet et Chandon Champagne, and the traditional centuries-old Rosenborg Wine were served throughout the meal.
Queen Margrethe II repeated a deep green lace evening gown, which she wore with the Danish Emerald Parure from the Crown Jewels. Crown Princess Mary donned a new red evening gown with a full skirt, capsleeves and a rounded v-shaped neckline, along with the Danish Ruby Parure. Princess Marie wore a repeated Rikke Gudnitz gold and white lace frock with her Diamond Floral Tiara.
The men present – Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim – wore military uniform, and all members of the royal family wore the collar of the Order of the Elephant.
