Prince François of Orléans Dies Aged 56

It was announced today that Prince François of Orléans, Count of Clermont has passed away at the age of 56.

The news was confirmed by both the Prince’s father, the Count of Paris, and his younger brother (and legal guardian), the Duke of Vendôme, on their respective websites. There is a little ambiguity as to the actual date of Prince François’s death: the Count of Paris’s statement says he died in the evening of December 30th, while the Duke of Vendôme’s statement says he died in the early morning of December 31st.

Prince François was born in February 1961, the second child and eldest son of Prince Henri of Orléans, Count of Clermont (later the Count of Paris) and Duchess Marie Thérèse of Württemberg (later the Duchess of Montpensier). The Prince had a mental disability due to his mother contracting toxoplasmosis during her pregnancy (and subsequently during her pregnancy with her next child, Princess Blanche). Prince François lived in specialised homes in Switzerland and Paris throughout his life, and was often seen attending family events.

The Prince is survived by his parents, his four siblings (Princess Marie of Liechtenstein, Princess Blanche, Prince Jean, Duke of Vendôme, and Prince Eudes, Duke of Angoulême), and their families.
