Dutch King and Queen End Official Visit to the Dutch Caribbean
On the third and final day of their official visit, Saturday December 2, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima were in St. Maarten.
Upon their arrival to the Princess Juliana International Airport, the Royal Couple was welcomed by Eugene Holiday, Governor of St. Maarten, and his wife.
Then the King and the Queen moved to the headquarters of the Red Cross where they met with students of Simpson Bay School. Following the disaster of Hurricane Irma, the Red Cross supported all the families that lost their jobs and houses because of the storm. Employees and volunteers of the Red Cross provide daily breakfast and lunch at eighteen schools for a total of 4,000 pupils.
Afterwards the Royal Couple paid a visit to the Causeway Bridge where they met with representatives of the Dutch Caribbean Nature Alliance, a nonprofit organization that aims to protect the natural environment and to help in the management of the conservation organizations on the islands of Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Maarten. The King and the Queen were informed about the damages that the storms cause to a vulnerable nature.
