Kensington Palace has announced that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding will take place at St George’s Chapel, Windsor next May. The exact date of the wedding has yet to be confirmed.

The couple are “grateful to the Queen for granting permission for the use of the Chapel”, with Windsor being a “very special place for Prince Harry”. The couple have “regularly spent time there” during their courtship, palace spokesperson Jason Knauf said during the press briefing.

As with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s 2011 wedding, the Royal Family will pay for the core aspects of the day, and is likely to be televised. “They [Prince Harry and Ms Markle] want the day to be shaped so as to allow members of the public to feel part of the celebrations too and are currently working through ideas for how this might be achieved. This wedding, like all weddings, will be a moment of fun and joy that will reflect the characters of the bride and groom,” Mr Knauf said.

During the briefing, it was also revealed that Ms Markle will apply for British citizenship (whether she will renounce her American citizenship in time has yet to be decided), as well as being baptised and confirmed into the Church of England. Ms Markle will also become a patron of The Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, and will give up her existing patronages (World Vision Canada global ambassador, and advocate of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women).
