Belgian State Visit to India: Day Three
Belgium’s King Philippe and Queen Mathilde started their third day in India with a separate program.
In the morning the King went to the headquarters of the Confederation of Indian Industry for the opening of the Indian-Belgium business forum with Indian and Belgian CEOs that discussed about innovation, industry 4.0, sustainability and trade opportunities.
The Queen, in the meantime, had a working breakfast along with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister of Belgium, Didier Reynders and Indian and Belgium CEOs. Topics of the meeting were the UN Sustainable Development Goals, education, health, nutrition and the importance of the UN 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development. Afterwards Queen Mathilde attended a networking meeting with Indian tour operators along with Minister Reynders, the Minister-President of the Brussels-Capital Region, Rudi Vervoort and the Indian Minister of Tourism, Alphons Kannanthanam.

Around noon the Royal Couple were reunited for the opening of the exhibition “India and Belgium & the Centenary of the Great War”, focused on the history of the two countries during the First World War. During the event was also presented the book “India in Flanders Field” that honours the Indian soldiers and airmen who fought and fell on Flanders Fields for Belgium’s freedom.

Then Queen Mathilde had a working lunch with representatives of the academic world of India and Belgium, discussing research, innovation, technology, management and the intensification of the scientific cooperation.
At the Belgium Embassy in New Delhi, King Philippe had a working lunch focused on the global economic trends. In the afternoon the King opened the seminar “Innovative Belgian
technologies for the heavy industry – Cement, Steel & Railways” and later he closed the seminar “Belgian innovative contributions in shaping India’s future as a global food player”.

Queen Mathilde in the afternoon had a working visit at the Dakshinpuri Community Center where she was informed about the project Plan-It Girls. This project works with principals and teachers, parents, boys, community and business leaders to create an environment that supports girls and their aspirations and it was created by the International Center for Research on Women’s (ICRW), a non-profit organization based in Washington with a regional office in New Delhi, that aims to promote gender equity, inclusion and the alleviation of poverty worldwide.
In the evening the King and the Queen attended a reception held at the Belgium Embassy with the performance of the Belgian group dancers Bollylicious, that danced over Bollywood songs inspired by Rajasthani folk and semi-classical music.
