Frederik and Mary in Japan: Day Two

For the second day of their working visit to Japan, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark took a Shinkansen train to Kanazawa, in the centre of Japan, for a day of engagements in the city.

Following a breakfast hosted by the Deputy Mayor of Kanazawa City, the Crown Princely Couple were given a tour of Kenrokuen Garden, a landscaped garden named one of the best in Japan and is home to one of the oldest stone lakes in the country.

The couple then visited an exhibition at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art entitled Everyday Life – Signs of Awareness. The exhibition features over 130 pieces  and installations created by Danish and Japanese designers.

Among the other parts of the Museum Frederik and Mary saw was possibly the most interesting, Argentine artist Leandro Erlich’s ‘Swimming Pool Illusion’, where guests are able to walk ‘underneath’ the water of a swimming pool (the water is contained between two pieces of glass, but from the top give the illusion of people standing underneath the water.

The purpose of the visit is to promote Danish business ventures into the Japanese economy, as well as celebrate 150 years of bilateral relations between the two nations.
