Mathilde battles against AIDS
This afternoon, Princess Mathilde participated in a colloquium at the Belgian Senate, held in honour of Dr. Peter Piot, former Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and current Executive Director of the UNAIDS, the programme of the UN to fight AIDS. The colloquium was entitled “Peter Piot and the battle against AIDS”.
Princess Mathilde is a special representative of UNICEF/UNAIDS for orphans and other vulnerable children by cause of AIDS. She has worked together with Dr. Piot on numerous occasions. On her recent visit to Mexico, the Princess visited a special hospital for AIDS patients, and last year she recorded a message (in Spanish) directed at young Latinos, to urge them to use protection against AIDS.
