Queen Maxima Opens the Exhibition “Ten Top Pieces on Tour”

Her Majesty Queen Maxima of The Netherlands opened today, Wednesday October 4, a new exhibition at the Mauritshuis Museum in The Hague.

“Ten Top Pieces on Tour” is a traveling exhibition with artworks from Rembrandt, Appel, Steen, Monet and Picasso that will be shown on tour in six different museums in the Netherlands every three weeks from 4 October 2017 until 25 March 2018. Starting in the Mauritshuis, the exhibition will travel to the Frisian Museum in Leeuwarden, the Rijksmuseum Twenthe in Enschede, the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo and will end in March 2018 in the Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht.

The artworks of this exhibition are important acquisitions from the period 1999-2016 that were purchased thanks to the support of BankGiro Lottery participants and other individuals, funds, companies and public money. The BankGiro Lottery is a Dutch lottery that supports cultural organizations that work on culture and conservation of cultural heritage and the Mauritshuis it is a beneficiary since 1999.

The exhibition includes works like “The Mayor of Delft and his daughter” by Jan Steen, the “Petite Chouette” by Picasso, “Portrait of an old man” by Rembrandt, “The square man” by Karel Appel.

The Queen toured the exhibition accompanied by Emilie Gordenker, the director of the Mauritshuis and the directors of the other museums that will host the exhibition in the upcoming months.
