Prince Nikolai Turns Eighteen With Dinner on the Dannebrog

Denmark’s Prince Nikolai today celebrated his eighteenth birthday, and was joined by his immediate family for a birthday dinner aboard the royal yacht, Dannebrog.

The birthday boy posed for photos with his parents, stepmother Marie and three siblings before the group boarded the yacht, where Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik were waiting. Crown Princess Mary and her four children were also present.

Billed Bladet has reported that Prince Nikolai was given the Order of the Elephant by his grandmother to mark his move into adulthood (they also reported that he was upgraded to HRH from HH, but nothing has been confirmed officially).

The Prince is the elder son of Prince Joachim and his first wife, the Countess of Frederiksborg; he is the first grandchild of Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik. Nikolai is currently seventh in line to the Danish throne.
