The Cambridges Commemorate the Hundredth Anniversary of the Battle of Passschendaele

On July 30, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a commemoration service on the one hundredth anniversary of the Battle of Passchendaele, which was held in Belgium at the Menin Gate in Ypres.

They were joined by King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of the Belgians as well as British Prime Minister Theresa May; also present was Princess Anne’s husband Tim Laurence.

The Battle of Passchendaele was the third battle at Ypres and 275,000 allied troops died, as did 222,000 German troops. William said during the speech that “Britain and Belgium stand together… in remembrance of that sacrifice”.
