Prince William Joins Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Anniversary Celebrations
At RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire on Tuesday, the Duke of Cambridge joined Royal Air Force veterans in a celebration to mark the 60th anniversary of the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
Prince William spoke with a number of the veterans, including 94-year-old Rusty Waughman, who fly a Lancaster airplane late in the war. They had previously watched an special air display.
The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight was established on July 11, 1957 to honour the individuals who served for, and lost their lives for, the RAF. It “preserve examples of the principle aircraft” involved in the historic 1940 battle.
Prince William is the Memorial Flight’s patron.
