Prince Charles Marks Anniversary of Army Air Corps

As their Colonel-in-Chief, the Prince of Wales joined members of the Army Air Corps at Salisbury Cathedral on Thursday for a ceremony celebrating their sixtieth anniversary.

Prince Charles first inspected a guard of honour outside the Cathedral, before he presented the unit with its new guidon, granter by Queen Elizabeth for the occasion. He then addressed the crowd of 1,200 current servicemen from the unit, veterans, and their families.

“As the father of a former Army Air Corps pilot myself, I am very much aware of the mixed emotions of pride and concern involved in your children embarking on helicopter training and operations. I have no doubt that it is the unfaltering support, provided by those at home, that allows our soldiers to manage so well when the going gets tough,” he said, in reference to his younger son, Prince Harry’s, time as an Apache helicopter pilot with the Army Air Corps in Afghanistan.
