A Canal For You, Your Majesty! Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s Engagements in Scotland

Queen Elizabeth added yet another location named after her to her stable, as she and the Duke of Edinburgh today officially named the Queen Elizabeth II Canal in the Falkirk District.

The couple joined a flotilla of sea craft along the canal to The Helix during the visit, which included an inspection of The Kelpies, two larger-than-life horse sculptures created by Andy Scott.

Afterwards, Queen Elizabeth and the Duke headed to Stirling Castle where they met with staff who run the museum and were involved in its redevelopment. The Queen and the Duke also attended a thanksgiving service to mark Her Majesty’s seventy years as Colonel in Chief of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.

As the Queen arrived at the Castle and was presented with a bouquet of flowers, the Shetland pony – Cruachan IV – who was part of the official welcoming ceremony tried his luck at getting a snack during proceedings – he attempted to take a bite out of Her Majesty’s flowers!

Later in the day, Queen Elizabeth had an audience with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
