Queen Elizabeth and Prince Harry Honour Young People From Across The Commonwealth

At Buckingham Palace on Thursday, Queen Elizabeth II presented the 2017 Queen’s Young Leaders with their awards to honour their exceptional community work. The winners are selected from across the Commonwealth, and must be aged between 18 and 29.

Following the presentation in the Palace’s Throne Room, the Queen and the leaders were then joined by the Duke of York, Prince Harry and former Prime Minister Sir John Major for a reception.

“At home and abroad, I see people – especially young people – doing incredible things. Young people are using this technology more than ever to be a force for good and positive change in their communities. They are creative and innovative, and most importantly, they are committed to making the world a better, more optimistic, and compassionate place,” Prince Harry said in his speech. He praised this year’s winners for the “tremendous difference” that have made in their individual communities, and encouraged them to continue their “inspiring” work.

Prince Harry then attended a dinner with the award winners at Australia House.

The Queen’s Young Leaders program was established in 2014 as part of the Queen’s 2012 Diamond Jubilee. Sixty young people “changing their community” are awarded each year until 2018.
