Foundation of Queen Margrethe & Prince Henrik Donates To Greenland Tsunami Victims
The foundation of Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik of Denmark has donated 200,000DKK (26,800€ / $30,000USD) to the relief effort currently going on in Greenland following a tsunami that hit the northwest of the country last weekend.
The money has been donated to the Danish Red Cross, who will redistribute the funds to their sister organisation in Greenland, to be used to assist the local communities affected by the disaster.
An earthquake struck about 30km north of Nuugaatsiaq, which subsequently suffered severe flooding afterwards as a tsunami was triggered by the quake. Uummannaq and Illorsuit also saw flooding. Four people, who were inside a house in Nuugaatsiaq that was swept away by the floodwaters, were officially declared missing; many others injured.
