Dutch King Honours Veterans on The Country’s 13th Veterans Day
Veterans Day was marked in The Netherlands Saturday, with King Willem-Alexander leading tributes to the servicemen and women who have served their country since World War II.
King Willem-Alexander, with a white carnation – the symbol of Dutch resistance against German forces during the Second World War, “now the symbol of appreciation for all Dutch veterans” – pinned to the lapel of his military uniform, first attended a ceremony at the Ridderzaal where medals were presented to a group of veterans for their remarkable service.
A parade of veterans and currently serving military personnel was held in the afternoon at the Kneuterdijk.
The King was joined by Prime Minister Mark Rutte for the day’s events.
