Prince Harry and the Cambridges Donate To Grenfell Tower Victims

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry have donated an undisclosed amount of money to the fund established by the Evening Standard in support of the victims of Wednesday’s horrific Grenfell Tower fire.

“The tragedy at Grenfell Tower has left a number of local people in need of urgent assistance. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry are pleased the Evening Standard’s Dispossessed Fund has immediately swung into action. As residents of the local area, they are keen to offer their immediate support,” a spokesperson for Kensington Palace said to the paper.

Over £700,000 had been raised by Thursday morning, local time.

Queen Elizabeth issued a statement this morning on the tragedy, which has left 17 people confirmed dead – a number that is expected to rise severely as emergency workers go through the 24-storey building that was reduced to a charred shell after a fire broke out and quickly spread shortly after midnight Wednesday.

“My thoughts and prayers are with those families who have lost loved ones in the Grenfell Tower fire and the many people who are still critically ill in hospital. Prince Philip and I would like to pay tribute to the bravery of firefighters and other emergency services officers who put their own lives at risk to save others. It is also heartening to see the incredible generosity of community volunteers rallying to help those affected by this terrible event,” Her Majesty’s statement read.
