“Gigante Nadal”: King Juan Carlos Watches On As Rafa Makes History
The former King of Spain, Juan Carlos I, was in the stands at Roland Garros on Sunday afternoon to watch his countryman, Rafael Nadal, make tennis history as he became the first player in the Open era to win the same Grand Slam tournament a staggering ten times.
Mr Nadal defeated Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka in straight sets, 6-2 6-3 6-1, to take home the historic French Open trophy.
The Spanish Royal Court issued a Tweet after the match, hailing Rafa as a “giant”: “For Rafa, there is no two without three, without four, without five, without six, without seven, without eight, without nine, without ten”.
