Back to School: Duke of York Visits His Alma Mater
The Duke of York paid a visit to his alma mater, Gordonstoun, on Monday, meeting current pupils and staff, and even catching up with some familiar faces.
The school’s business students showed their royal visitor an exhibition of their business ideas. It was then to the performance arts centre, where the Prince watched pupils from the junior school perform the opening number of The Lion King, and a scene from the Year 9 and 10 upcoming production of Macbeth.
“Thanks for your performances – they made me think about when I performed in The Magic Flute. But, unfortunately, that required me to sing,” the Duke joked afterwards with the students.
Later on during his visit, Prince Andrew spoke with his former PE teacher and one of the school’s longest serving staff, Moira, who works in the refectory.
Prince Andrew attended Gordonstoun, in Moray, north-east Scotland, between 1973 and 1979.
