Hitting The Water: Prince Albert Takes Part In First Water Bike Challenge
Monaco’s Prince Albert hit the 21km stretch of water between Nice and Monaco on Sunday as part of the inaugural Riviera Water Bike Challenge, held to raise money for the Fondation Princesse Charlène de Monaco.
He was joined by a number of famous athletes, such as Formula One’s David Coulthard and Nico Rosberg, marathon champion Paula Radcliffe, and South African Olympic swimming Ryk Neethling.
Princess Charlene, who was originally said to have been participating herself in the sporting event but was forced to sit out due to injury, greeted the 40 racers as they arrived to the Yacht Club of Monaco aboard their Schiller S1 water bikes.
The money raised from the event will go towards the construction of an Aquatic Rescue Centre in Burkina Faso, “the first of its kind in West Africa”, which is being supported by the Princess’s Foundation and the Monaco and Burkina Faso Red Cross Societies.
