King Abdullah of Jordan Gives Speech at WEF Opening
His Majesty King Abdullah opened today, at the Dead Sea in Jordan, the 2009 World Economic Forum on the Middle East which is being held for the fifth time in Jordan. The forum is held from May 15-17 with more than 1,400 participants of leaders from business, politics and civil society.
In his opening speech, His Majesty said on the anniversary of the 1948 Arab-Israeli war “The Arab Peace Initiative has offered Israel a place in the neighbourhood and more: acceptance by 57 nations, the one-third of the UN members that do not recognize Israel.”
The forum sessions theme is Implications of the Global Economic Crisis for the Middle East: Home-grown Strategies for Success. 60 percent of the attendees are from the Middle East.
