Prince William Helps Brighten Patients’ Day During Royal Marsden Visit

To mark the tenth anniversary of becoming the President of the Royal Marsden Hospital, the Duke of Cambridge today paid a visit to the hospital’s facility in Sutton.

He stopped in on a number of cancer patients receiving treatment in the Oak Centre for Children and Young People, including six-year-old Daisy Wood, whose blood pressure he helped to take in preparation for a lumbar puncture.

“She did say William was a little old for her to marry,” Daisy’s father said after the visit, during which Prince William set up a blood pressure cuff and name tag on the young patient. William later visited the play room and joined patients for arts and crafts.

The Duke was also shown the Royal Marsden’s newest piece of technology, a Magnetic Resonance Linear accelerator, which is designed to improve the effectiveness of radiotherapy treatment for cancer patients.

Prince William undertook work experience at the Royal Marsden in 2005, in the radiotherapy department – during today’s visit he met up with his work experience mentor, Fiona Bragg, who said that few people recognised him when he worked on the reception desk.
