Prince Jean of Luxembourg and Princess Margaretha of Liechtenstein today celebrate their sixtieth birthday. They were born on this day in 1957 at Betzdorf Castle, as the third and fourth children of the-then Hereditary Grand Duke and Duchess of Luxembourg, Jean and Joséphine-Charlotte.

Both siblings were educated in Luxembourg, before Jean continued his studies in Switzerland, France and England, where he did military training at Sandhurst; while Margaretha continued her studies in Belgium, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

Jean has been married twice: firstly to Hélène Vestur from 1987 to 2004, secondly to Diane de Guerre from 2009. He has four children with his first wife: Princess Marie-Gabrielle, Prince Constantin, Prince Wenceslas and Prince Carl-Johan.

Margaretha married Prince Nikolaus of Liechtenstein in 1982; they have four children: Prince Leopold (who died the same day he was born), Princess Maria Anunciata, Princess Marie-Astrid and Prince Josef Emanuel.
