Queen Silvia Opens New Silviahemmet House
A new Silviahemmet custom housing for suffers of dementia was opened by Queen Silvia today in Ekerö. This Silviahemmet – called SilviaBo – is different to others established by the organisation, as it consists of adapted apartments for couples that have one partner suffering from dementia, instead of the traditional nursing home set-up.
“We live in an ageing society. More and more people live longer…it’s a fantastic development! But it also brings growing challenges. High age is, as we know, the biggest risk factor for dementia…Therefore, we need to create the conditions for those affected to live as well as possible,” Queen Silvia said in a speech during the opening.
She and King Carl XVI Gustaf were given a tour of the six apartments that have been developed as part of the SilviaBo pilot project.
