The Duchess of Cambridge Visits Luxembourg For Treaty of London Anniversary

The 1867 Treaty of London was commemorated yesterday in Luxembourg City, with members of the Grand Ducal Family in attendance, along with the Duchess of Cambridge.

Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie and Prime Minister Xavier Bettel joined Kate at the Luxembourg City Museum for a tour of a new exhibition showcasing the history of the tiny country in honour of the anniversary. The 1867 Treaty was confirmation of Luxembourg’s independence and neutrality.

The official party then took a short walk on the city’s walking trail to the Dräi Eechelen Museum, where the Duchess was shown the ‘Luxembourg 1867 – Open City’ exhibition.

Earlier in the day, Kate – who wore a new Emilia Wickstead baby blue coat dress (similar in design to many others in her wardrobe) – joined Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie (looking quite lovely in a deep red Paule Ke dress with ruffled detailing) at the Musée d’art moderne Grand-Duc Jean (MUDAM). The two ladies were given a tour of exhibitions featuring the works of two British artists.

Afterwards, it was on to Place Clairefontaine for a cycling-themed festival to celebrate the upcoming Tour de France. Kate met with several of Luxembourg’s famous cyclists and helped schoolchildren design jerseys for the Tour.

The Duchess also stopped in at the Grand Ducal Palace, where she met with Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa. The Hereditary Grand Ducal Couple were also present, as was Princess Alexandra.
