Prince Reza Pahlavi Announces Death of Uncle
The Head of the House of Pahlavi, Prince Reza Pahlavi, on Sunday announced the death of his uncle, Prince Gholamreza Pahlavi.
“We are sad to announce the death of my dear uncle, Prince Gholamreza Pahlavi…Our uncle always loved Iran, spoke lovingly of our nation, and was always anxiously awaiting the day he could return to our beloved homeland,” the Prince’s announcement read on his Facebook page.
Prince Gholamreza died at the American Hospital in Paris, France where he had lived for many years following the Iranian Revolution. He was 93 years old, passing just eight days shy of his 94th birthday.
The Prince was born in 1923 as the fifth child of Reza Shah Pahlavi, the Shah of Iran, his only child by his third wife, Turan Amir Soleimani. He was educated in Iran, Switzerland and the United States, where Prince Gholamreza graduated from Princeton University. During the reign of his older brother, Shah Mohammed Reza, Gholamreza served as a lieutenant general in the Iranian military.
He is survived by his second wife, Manijeh Jahanbani, his five children and a number of grandchildren.
