Royal Mint Issues Commemorative Coin To Mark 100 Years of the House of Windsor
A new commemorative coin has been minted by the Royal Mint in the United Kingdom to mark the centenary of the House of Windsor.
Four versions of the £5 coin – which features the badge of the House, the Round Tower of Windsor Castle, on one side – are now available for sale from the Royal Mint. Amongst them are a brilliant uncirculated coin, a silver proof coin and a gold proof coin.
The House of Windsor was founded on July 17, 1917 by King George V in response to anti-German sentiment felt in the United Kingdom at the height of World War One. Replacing the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha on the British throne, it takes its name from Windsor Castle in Berkshire.
