Victoria Joins Willem-Alexander For OPCW Anniversary In The Hague
King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands welcomed Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria to The Hague on Wednesday as she joined him at the opening ceremony of the Chemical Weapons Prohibition Organisation’s twentieth anniversary events.
The two royals – who are long-time friends – posed for photos outside the Ridderzaal in The Hauge’s Binnenhof ahead of the event, which was also attended by the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres. The Chemical Weapons Prohibition Organisation was created in 1997 to ensure governmental “compliance with the United Nations Chemical Weapons Convention”.
Crown Princess Victoria gave a speech at the event, saying that much has been accomplished by the OPCW since its inception, with very few countries producing chemical weapons these days, but “there is much more work to be done…for a world free of chemical weapons, having those affected in mind.”
