The almost 50,000 runners in the 2017 London Marathon were sent on their way by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry this morning, as the royal trio pushed the starting buzzer to signal the start of the 42km run.

William, Kate and Harry were there on the starting line to cheer the runners on, and joked with each other ahead of the official start with the airhorns they were given. The royals were then seen at the half-way mark of the marathon, offering encouragement and high-fives to runners as they went around the bend – though many had to be given some extra “Go, go!”s as they took the opportunity to snap a quick selfie with the royal trio.

Prince Harry and the Duchess even had on blue foam fingers emblazoned with the Heads Together logo.

William and Kate were seen again at the 35km-mark passing bottles of waters to runners as they went past. After the marathon, Prince Harry presented the winning runners – Daniel Wanjiru in the men’s, Mary Keitany in the women’s, David Weir in the men’s wheelchair and Manuela Schar in the women’s wheelchair – with their trophies and Tag Heuer watches.

Earlier in the morning, the royals met with those running for Heads Together charities.
