Queen Mathilde Presents Baillet Latour Health Prize 2017
Today, Thursday April 20, Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of the Belgians handed out the Baillet Latour Health Prize 2017 at the Palais des Académies in Brussels.
The prizes awarded were two: the Baillet Latour Health Prize went to Professor Adriano Aguzzi, Director of the Institute of Neuropathology at the University of Zurich (Switzerland) and the Baillet Latour Grant for Medical Research went to Professor Roosmarijn Vandenbroucke from the University of Ghent.
The Baillet Latour Health Prize is rewarded with a sum of 250,000 euros while the Baillet Latour Grant for Medical Research is rewarded with 150,000 euros for three years. Professor Aguzzi was awarded for “his innovative research on the molecular approach to biological neurological diseases caused by prions”. Professor Vandenbroucke was awarded for “her research project in the field of neurological diseases”, particularly in neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease.
The prizes are awarded by the the Artois-Baillet Latour Foundation, a non-profit organization founded on 1 March 1974 by the Count Alfred de Baillet Latour. The Foundation aims to support outstanding achievements in the scientific, academic and artistic fields and since 2000 the prize is awarded annually.
