Yum, Yum: Prince Henrik Opens Aarhus Tenure As European Gastronomy Region 2017
Prince Henrik of Denmark was in Aarhus on Tuesday where he officially opened the Aarhus-Midtjylland region’s time as a European Gastronomy Region 2017.
The Prince was given the opportunity to try the ‘flavours of the future’ during the opening hosted at the Michelen-star restaurant Frederikshøj Inn. He tasted meals created by six of Midtjylland’s best restaurants, before making his way through several food stalls set up by other restaurants from the region – one of which allowed guests to ‘pimp’ their own buttermilk dessert with various toppings. Other stalls provided samples of menus that will be served in the region’s hospitals in coming years.
“I am delighted to be the patron of an initiative that will promote Nordic cuisine in an international context, ensuring increased attention to local producers and stimulate interest in food among new generations,” Prince Henrik said ahead of the event.
Two other regions – Lombardy, Italy and Riga-Gauja Region, Latvia – also bear the title for this year.
