Sayōnara Japan! King Felipe and Queen Letizia Finish State Visit

On the final day of their state visit to Japan, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain travelled on a Shinkansen with Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko to the city of Shizuoka.

Here they visited the Shizuoka Prefecture Earthquake Disaster Prevention Centre to see technologies that are being used to improve the detection and response to earthquakes. The monarchs were shown the Seismic Effects Experimentation Area, witnessing a demonstration of a chair mechanised to show the movement of a 6 to 7 measurement on the Richter Scale.

Afterwards at the Fugetsuro Complex, King Felipe and Queen Letizia – in a lovely teal suit that stood out against the dreary weather – inspected a centuries-old clock that was given as a token of gratitude by King Felipe III to the Japanese Governor Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1611.

Following a luncheon, the royal group moved on to the Sengen Jinja Temple. They watched a traditional dance show Chigomai and met pupils from the Shizuoka City Aoi Elementary School who performed a song, before the official farewell ceremony took place in the Casablanca Room.
