It was a case of deja vu for King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain on Tuesday as they attended the opening of an exhibition celebrating the 80th anniversary of Pablo Picasso’s Guernica (they had attended another exhibition opening the day before).

The couple were given a tour of the exhibition, entitled ‘Piety and Terror in Picasso: The Road to Guernica” after the famous painting which is regarded as one of the premier anti-war paintings ever made, at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. 180 pieces of Picasso works make up the exhibition, coming together from over thirty public and private collections around the world.

2017 also marks the 25th anniversary of the painting arriving to the Museum.
