“Florals? For spring? Ground-breaking.” Meryl Streep’s voice as Miranda Priestly was the first thing that came to mind when this blogger saw photos from Monday evening’s Koningsdag Concert in Tilburg, with both royal ladies present donning floral-printed attire.

Ahead of the official Koningsdag celebrations at the end of the month, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima, Princess Beatrix and Prince Constantijn attended the annual concert held to help kick-off festivities (the concert is filmed and aired on television the evening of Koningsdag).

The Queen’s chiffon floral gown was given a modern edge thanks to its black background that was the perfect match for a pale pink, green and white floral print. A pair of rose pink drop earrings completed the look.

Princess Beatrix – fresh from a whirlwind visit to Aruba over the weekend – also went for a black and pink colour combination on her typical skirt suit configuration, though hers had a more prominent floral pattern.

This year’s concert featured music by the Amsterdam Sinfonietta strings, the Tim Kliphuis Trio, and students from the Fontys High School for the Arts.
