Prince Charles Begins ‘Brexit’ Tour of Europe in Romania

The Prince of Wales has embarked on a week-long tour of Europe, starting on Wednesday March 29 in Romania.

His first engagement after landing in Bucharest was at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where he laid a wreath in memory of soldiers who lost their lives fighting for Romania. The Prince also spoke with British military personnel who are currently stationed at the NATO Headquarters in Bucharest.

It was then over to the Cotroceni Palace for an audience with President Klaus Ioannis.  In a bilateral roundtable discussion, the two men discussed ways to further strengthen the Romanian-British partnership, particularly following the UK’s decision to leave the European Union. Prince Charles was awarded with the Order of the Star of Romania during the audience.

He said of the award, “I shall treasure this honour as a special symbol of my great affection for Romania and her people and of the warm relationship between our two countries,” and  that since his first visit to the country twenty years ago, his aim has “been to help remind Romanians of the uniqueness of their culture, their heritage and their architecture – and, above all, of their potential in today’s world”.

The Duchess of Cornwall will join her husband on Friday in Italy, and then accompany him to the Holy See and Austria.
