Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark hosted on Tuesday evening a gala banquet at Christiansborg Palace in honour of the Belgian King and Queen on the first day of their state visit.

The four royal ladies present – Queen Margrethe, Queen Mathilde, Crown Princess Mary and Princess Marie – all brought sparkle to their evening gowns with tiaras from the royal vaults: the Danish Queen wore the diamond and pearl parure, the Belgian Queen wore the full version of the Nine Provinces Tiara, Crown Princess Mary her diamond and ruby parure inherited from the late Queen Ingrid, and Princess Marie wore her diamond floral tiara. There was plenty of sparkle across the main table!

Following an entrance where Queen Margrethe and King Philippe inspected an honour guard, guests sat down for a four-course meal consisting of a roulade, beef tenderloin with a pommel soufflé and bordelaise sauce, mushroom tart, and a kumquat fromage plate.

Both monarchs gave speeches during the banquet, emphasising the history between the two countries and their common interests. Queen Margrethe in particular spoke about the long and close relationship the Danish and Belgian Royal Families have.

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde arrived in Copenhagen earlier on Tuesday, welcomed by the Danes at the airport before the official welcoming ceremony at Amalienborg. The visiting royals had audiences with the Danish Prime Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, and the speaker of Parliament in the afternoon; before they were joined by Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary for a sightseeing boat trip on Copenhagen Harbour.
