“There Is No Rule Book, No Right or Wrong” – Duchess of Cambridge Speaks Motherhood At Film Launch
The Duchess of Cambridge has spoken about the joys and challenges of motherhood as she helped launch a film series put together by family charity Best Beginnings.
“Nothing can really prepare you for you the sheer overwhelming experience of what it means to become a mother. It is full of complex emotions of joy, exhaustion, love, and worry, all mixed together,” Kate said, remarking how it is challenging even for people like her that have “support at home that most mothers do not”.
Her five-minute speech focused on the mental health challenges new parents, particularly mothers, can face in the first year of their child’s life, who might be “afraid to admit to the struggles they are facing due to the fear or shame of what others might think”.
“Their [mothers] role is vital in providing unconditional love, care, and support at home…we therefore should do everything we can to support and value their hard work,” the Duchess said before praising the ‘Out of the Blue’ film series as an “amazing example” of “talking honestly and openly” about parenting.
Kate, who was wearing a repeated red and white checkered skirt and blazer from Eponine London for the launch at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, then spent time hearing personal stories from women who have taken up the services provided by Best Beginnings to help them with the mental health challenges they faced after becoming parents.
The launch was held in conjunction with Heads Together.
